For our dinner we ordered the East Coast oysters which were very good as they showcased their freshness and briny flavor. The tuna sashimi and the salmon sashimi. Both dishes had a rather fishy taste, which may indicate less-than-ideal freshness. Three spreads served with pita bread; guava, tatami, and melintzanosalata all solid choices. Our main entrée was a 3.5 pound turbot fish, grilled with extra virgin olive oil, capers, and lemon, and a King Tiger Prawn. Both tasted great and were well-prepared and flavorful. The roasted potatoes with EVOO and lemon, along with the asparagus, were decent side dishes but not particularly standout. Our desert comprised of Baklava and pistachio ice cream was terrific. Overall, a solid dining experience with some hits and misses.
The service at Avra Miami is a mixed bag. While some aspects were attentive and efficient, there were inconsistencies that affected the overall experience. A mistake was made on the bill, which was very frustrating. Some servers may be knowledgeable and accommodating, while others might lack attentiveness. Overall, service quality can vary, so it’s best to double-check the bill before settling up.
We would return to this restaurant for another meal but not on a regular basis.
